The CWC 2009 Annual Awards Gala, held on March 31, 2009, in Ottawa, at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, was a celebration of women’s contributions to the Canadian communications industry.

The event was kept on schedule by the personable MC, Heather Hiscox, host CBC News: Morning. Her grace and humour kept the audience engaged and the evening flowing.
This year, Xerox Canada Limited was recognized as the CWC 2009 Employer of the Year. Jim Muzyka, Vice-President and General Manager, Xerox Global Services, Xerox Canada Ltd., accepted the award on behalf of the company, and thanked CWC for recognizing Xerox’s quest for a representative workplace.
Senator Pamela Wallin presented the inaugural CWC Excellence in Leadership Awards to seven exceptional women: Nyla Ahmad, Rochelle Grayson, Lesley McFarlane, Robin McIntyre, Annie Ménard, Margot Micallef and Susan Wood. It was clear in meeting this year’s winners why they excel in their fields and are successful leaders.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the CWC Woman of the Year Award to Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc., who received a standing ovation from the audience.
The 2009 Gala was attended by numerous VIPs including the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry; the Honourable Helena Guergis, Minister of State (Status of Women); Konrad von Finckenstein, Chairman of the CRTC; Ivan Fecan, President and CEO of CTVglobemedia Inc.; Pierre Blouin, CEO, MTS Allstream Inc. and Gary Maavara, Vice-President and General Counsel, Corus Entertainment Inc.
